How to use it

1. Open the chat, click the response settings button beside the attachment controls, and turn on Tools.
2. Ask a question with the operands or units spelled out. Available units include common length and mass units, plus Celsius and Fahrenheit.
3. For a time lookup, name an IANA timezone such as Europe/London or Asia/Shanghai. UTC is the default.
4. Wait for the final answer. Tool requests and results are passed back to the model, with at most two execution rounds and three model requests per reply.

When to turn on built-in tools

Turn on tools when you need a checkable number or current time in a named timezone. Leave them off for ordinary rewriting. Verify the input units and use a dedicated tool for money, medical or safety-critical engineering calculations.

When it helps

Use tools to check a simple quantity or avoid guessing a current time. For complex symbolic mathematics or domain-specific calculations, use a dedicated tool and verify the result. The model decides whether to request a function; enabling tools does not force a function call for every message. A complete tool-assisted reply uses one daily allowance slot.

Limits and checks

Built-in arithmetic supports addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and powers with finite numeric operands. It uses ordinary floating-point arithmetic, so it is not a decimal-precision financial calculator. These tools do not browse the web, run arbitrary code, access your files, or control other services.
